Today was a group trip to a Kletterwald Darmstadt. It’s a
ropes course park near the University on the north east side of town. It had
rained the night before, and the clouds were threatening to dump again. Luckily
we didn't get any more rain, but it may have killed the motivation of others. Only
four of us showed up to meet Nadja at the bus stop. Chris, Guinile, Lili,
Nadja, and I still went for it and had fun. For 12 € you get the gear, a quick
lesson, then you can go explore the routes all you want. For three hours we
wandered through the trees; climbing on ropes, zip-lining from tree to tree,
balancing on stuff. We had a good time. Guenael is quite a climber, so it was
fun to follow him through all the challenges. He wasn't
scared to keep climbing
up, and fitness wasn't an issue. We tried everything we could. I fell a couple
times and enjoyed hanging there among the branches.
Lili was high on a platform and had to use an automatic
belay to get down. She couldn't trust it and stood on that platform for a long
time getting more and more nervous. It’s like jumping off a cliff; the longer
you wait, the harder it is. Finally, an instructor climbed up and simply PUSHED
her off. She needed it, and was excited about it in the end.
