Sonntag im Darmstadt

I slept in! I got out of bed at around 10:00. It was much needed.

After breakfast, Sam and I headed out to see the city. He's been here for a few days already, so we took a route he hadn't seen yet. We had coffee at a really cool spot called Woog that looks out over a small lake called Großer Woog. Laura, Sam's flat mate, tells me it means small lake or pond. We ordered in German and talked for a while just enjoying the slow pace of Sunday in Germany. I was going to buy food because I had eaten some of Sam's, but all the grocery and retail stores are closed on Sundays. This made for a quiet walk around town. Not many people are downtown on Sundays. After coffee we walked around more to see a cool rose garden in its dormant state. It will be really cool in spring or summer when it's all in bloom. I'll load pictures of that when it happens.

Sam's flat mates invited us all over for waffles. Sara and Laura are great people, and I think Sam and Lauren lucked out with finding this place. Sara just graduated school and had studied industrial design just like us. Sara is in school now studying art history. We talked about the idiosyncrasies of our languages, joked about our trouble with pronouncing German sounds, and learned some useful profanities. The waffles were lecker (delicious) as we had nutella, peanut butter, applesauce, and powdered sugar to put on them. With good food, and good conversation, we had a fun time and spent a few hours with them. I was struggling with a lot of pronunciations, and I mentioned how difficult it all was for me. Then Sara said something really fast to Laura, some of which I understood. I understood the word "pussy." Yep, I knew she was talking shit, so I called her out. She joked that I was a pussy for being nervous, frustrated, or whatever it was I was going through. It was all in good fun. She's cute, so I'll let it slide.

Today was fun. I think I'll like it here. Tomorrow is our orientation day at school, so it's time to get the ball rolling and see what the next few months has in store for me. I had better look up how to get to school, because I'm not sure Sam and Lauren are totally sure how to get to our meeting place. I only have a 50 € bill left, so taking the bus tomorrow may be a problem.  I'll make it work.

Ciao.
